Introduction

The Associate Degree in Civil Construction was established in 1995. Its purpose is to train skilled people and enable them to enter the labor market in a shorter period of 2 to 2.5 years in comparison to the bachelor’s degree. These experts can work in cooperation with both designers and executives in the workplace.
The Associate Degree in Civil Construction is an undergraduate degree which requires passing a minimum of 69 credit hours in 5 semesters. The program consists of two parts: general education requirements (mostly in the first semester) and major requirements (mostly in the last four semesters). A full-time student, who is taking an average of 14 credit hours per semester, would finish the program in two and one-half years. Students accepted to this program will have the opportunity to develop the necessary background in mathematics, physics, computer use, and English in the first semesters. They will, then, take courses on statics, mechanics of materials, drafting, surveying, construction materials, concrete technology, soil mechanics, loading, and some introductory courses on project cost estimation, project management and control, technical English writing, and HSE. In addition, the program includes a considerable number of practical courses offered separately or simultaneously with the other theoretical courses.

Mission

This course aims to train skilled people in general fields of construction, who can work as mediators between designers and executive contractors. These people should also have a general overview of the design and the ability to manage and supervise contractors based on the designers’ plans.

Vision

It is expected that the students in this major gain sufficient expertise in the following subjects:
supervising construction projects, inspecting civil executive operations in different contexts of building construction and mechanical and electrical equipment, preparing executive drawings, controlling correct execution of plans at the construction site, project estimation and control, working as a technical office expert, surveying, welding, supervising production and installation of steel structures, concrete and soil mechanics laboratory technician, and performing as a construction contractor.

Goals and Objectives

The Associate Degree in Civil Construction focuses on educating technicians with skills in the general works of construction. The graduates can work as assistant engineers to solve technical challenges in various fields of construction. If candidates are eager to work in the design field, they can continue their education in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering program.

Admission Requirements

The Associate Degree in Civil Construction is open to graduates in twelfth year or pre-university school in mathematics or experimental science fields and graduates in twelfth year of vocational school or third year in vocational school in the case of successfully passing mathematics 1, 2, 3 and physics 1 and 2.
